I've been invited to join the online book review tour for J. L. Hancock's new series, a techno-thriller called The Voodoo Series. Today's blog is about the first in that series, THE HAWK ENIGMA.

MY REVIEW

This is the first techno-thriller I’ve read—but as a long-time fan of thrillers, I wanted to give it a try, and I’m glad I did. THE HAWK ENIGMA is a fast-paced, high-stakes story with compelling characters and plenty of action. In short, it’s an adrenaline rush from start to finish.

One of the book’s most intriguing elements is its use of AI. As with many emerging technologies, it raises the question: is this a step forward, or are we teetering on the edge of something dangerous? The story explores this through the chilling concept of the “God Algorithm”—and while I won’t give anything away, I’ll say this: it really makes you stop and think.

Then there’s the team—Voodoo, Stu, Frisco, and Sparks. Voodoo is the main protagonist, joined by Stu and Frisco, his brothers-in-arms from their days in Iraq. Sparks is the newest member of this elite unit and fits right in. When things heat up, it’s thrilling to see this tight-knit, battle-hardened team leap into action.

I’m glad J.L. Hancock has written more books in this series—I’ll definitely be following this formidable special forces quartet on future missions.

My next book

Instead of a review, I'm going to share with you my current work-in-progress. Unlike my previous work, this is not a children's book - even though I still love children's stories and always will. However, I fancied a change and wanted to write in one of my favourite genres - A Supernatural Thriller. I've loved watching films and reading books in this genre for over thirty years, so I think it's high time I had a go at writing one myself!

Watch this space ...

Until next time,

Happy Reading!
